Hello, where do I get ASUS EZ Installer? I don't have a DVD drive so can't use the ASUS support DVD.ASRock offers a similar software that could be used, but I rather use ASUS EZ Installer. Why didn't you put it on your website for download like they did for their Motherboards?best to spend the $12.00 or so for an optical drive for these type of issues when building a system.
I remembered that I have a laptop lying around so I extracted the software from the DVD there.I have uploaded it for others here: I noticed that your tool does not create a 'EFIBootbootx64.efi' file which is required for Windows 7 to boot on a UEFI PC. I remembered that I have a laptop lying around so I extracted the software from the DVD there.I have uploaded it for others here: I noticed that your tool does not create a 'EFIBootbootx64.efi' file which is required for Windows 7 to boot on a UEFI PC. The easiest method to do this, would be to use Rufus: Rufus do this (select the ISO by clicking the CD drive icon):copy the AutoUnattend folder and AutoUnattend.xml file to the root of the USB stick:you don't have access to the Support DVD, I uploaded it here: to enable CSM in BIOS, but install in UEFI mode.It should now boot fine.Sorry guys, I have the ISO on the disc and copied the two folders on there and came to the same issue. When I 'browse' the drives in the windows install, I've only got harddrive X.Do I need to enable this CSM mode? Where is that located and is it not on by default?Kind regards. I've spent quite a few hours trying to install Win 7 on a Z170 Pro Gaming today. A few findings:Using the Asus tool to create a USB stick does not work (tried the tool both on a win 8.1 and a Win 7 32 bit PC).
The tool completes but when using the USB stick I either get no USB 3 support (meaning I cannot use keyboard/mouse) or I get the message in this thread 'missing driver.' .Using a optical SATA drive with Asus DVD + USB stick with Win 7 I get a bit further.
I get as far as 'Extracting files 100%.' During the Win 7 install but then nothing happens (tried 3 times). To eliminate a faulty USB stick I installed Windows 10 using the same stick and it worked fine.So then tried using Rufus (both GPT/UEFI and Legacy BIOS) with and without the USB drivers from the ASUS DVD + Win 7. This did not work either. My last attempt now (looks like it has worked) was with a Rufus created Win 7 USB stick with the USB 3 drivers. Then when the install complains about 'missing driver.'
I browsed and used this driver (on another USB stick):IntelUSB3Win7V40036Win81V10042Windows7Driv ersHCSwitchx64iusb3hcsI found that driver on the Asus Support pages for Z170 Pro Gaming (it's in the Intel USB 3 package).Anyway, it's now booted into Win 7 and is downloading Windows Updates. Sorry, my instructions does not work. Did you create the drive as MBr or GTP with rufus?Tired both options in Rufus with different combinations of BIOS settings. Also tried both FAT 32 and NTFS on the USB stick. Going for UEFI GPT in Rufus and full UEFI settings in BIOS eventually gets you to a BIOS message saying something like 'some settings are invalid/incompatible so we have changed them for you, press F2 to continue or F1 to enter BIOS'.
When checking the BIOS it has indeed enabled CSM again (running latest BIOS 0301).My Win 7 install seems to be running fine after I used theHCSwitchx64iusb3hcsdriver. Although it is not using UEFI boot. Will probably not spend anymore time on this as I intend to replace the Z170 Pro Gaming board with the ROG VIII Extreme when it becomes available.
Hello guys, I think I found another solution. You need to integrate USB 3 driver to boot.wim and it will detect HDD during setup. Windows 7 installed completly but omfg no usb ports are working WTFSo cant install nothing from flash drives WTF is this bull.Strange thig is my Mouse anf KB work but in device manager its being picked up as PS2 lmaoDid you install USB 3 driver by using the setup or from device manager? When I did did it from Device Manger, all USB ports stopped working and I had to reinstall Windows. My WiFi dongle was not working on both USB 2 and USB 3 until I installed USB 3 driver. So be sure to install USB 3 the correct way. Just wondering my Wim is a different version ithe windows iam using is a modified ISO image completly updated do you think that would affect it?
I use a windows 7 5 in1 from murphy-78 at MDLI just ran it again going to try one more timeMicrosoft Windows Version 6.3.9600(c) 2013 Microsoft Corporation. I give you big Kudos.
Many hours gone. What happened to my precious time! This was the fix, however I had to put ALL there drivers in the 'IntelUSB3Win7V40036Win81V10042' which is found on the Asus website via the Maximums VIII Hero Drivers DL page for win 7 x64Hello guys, I think I found another solution. You need to integrate USB 3 driver to boot.wim and it will detect HDD during setup. So, I was using the ASUS EZ INSTALLER off of the damned disc that came in the box. It actually failed to install windows all the way using the old DVDs software. Giving the error of windows cannot be install due to unsupported HW.I have downloaded the ASUS EZ INSTALLER, from the ASUS Driver page under utilities for this MOBO.

Which is dated as new of AUGUST 2015.it works. It takes longer to load but, USB works, moved over the LAN drivers on a USB and now I am cooking. SOLUTION:The solution for me was just to burn a DVD and use a SATA DVD drive to install Windows 7.The issue is clearly Asus BIOS not having proper legacy emulation support for windows 7 USB drivers. A frustrating and insufferable experience that ruined an otherwise happy new computer build.Once in Windows Keyboard and Mouse worked fine but no USB Flash Drives would work lol. So had to burn a disk with the USB drivers and the LAN drivers from another computer off the website (as I didn't have the original disk)Perhaps Asus will install a BIOS patch to fix it. Hi all,Just wanted to thank Desmond86, its trick (updating boot.wim) worked for me. I did not have to use any DVD, I simply used Rufus to create a USB Key from the updated ISO.Before that, I tried this tip from 'HowToGeek':it did not work for my Z170 machine.
Still, HowToGeek gives good indications on how to slipstream a Windows7 Install ISO.Cheers!Sergewww.skydelsolutions.com.
